Over the past several weeks, I've found myself reflecting on a simple truth that applies to organizations of every size: people perform their best when they know they matter.

As leaders, it's easy to become consumed with goals, metrics, deadlines, budgets, and strategic plans. Those things certainly matter, but none of them happen without people. Every accomplishment, every milestone, and every success story can ultimately be traced back to individuals who chose to invest their talents, energy, and effort into a shared mission.

This month, I want to explore the importance of affirmation and celebration in leadership. How we recognize others, encourage our teams, and create a culture of belonging has a profound impact on organizational health. In many ways, people before performance isn't just a leadership philosophy—it's a growth strategy.

Thank you for following along on this journey. I hope this month's issue encourages you to invest intentionally in the people around you.

Thought of the Month: Building Leaders

Great leaders understand that their role is not simply to accomplish more themselves, but to develop others. They see potential in people, provide opportunities, offer encouragement, and help others grow into leadership roles of their own.

The strongest organizations aren't built around one influential leader. They're built by leaders who intentionally multiply leadership throughout the organization.

Whether you're leading a business, nonprofit, church, school, or family, one of the greatest investments you can make is in developing people.

Leadership isn't measured by how many people follow you. It's measured by how many leaders you help create.

What We’re Working On

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to facilitate a two-day retreat with the leadership team at Delmarva Christian School as we prepare for one of the most significant transitions in the school's history.

While we spent time discussing strategy, operations, and future planning, one lesson stood above the rest: planning is important, but building and aligning the team that will execute the plan is everything.

John Maxwell famously said that everything rises and falls on leadership, and I continue to find that true. Strong leadership teams become the glue that holds organizations together and the catalyst that turns vision into reality. Before great organizations achieve great things, great leaders learn to lead one another well.

Leaders Eat Last – by Simon Sinek

Sinek explores why some teams trust one another deeply while others struggle with engagement, morale, and culture. His central argument is simple but powerful: great leaders create environments where people feel safe, valued, and supported.

The book reinforces an idea that aligns perfectly with this month's theme—people thrive when leaders prioritize their well-being rather than viewing them simply as a means to an end.

If you're looking to strengthen your leadership, improve your culture, or better understand what motivates people, this book is well worth your time.
