Over the last few weeks, I’ve been reminded how often leaders are doing the right things, with the right heart, but without the simple clarity needed to move people forward. Whether you’re leading a business, a nonprofit, or a ministry, clarity is often the difference between momentum and missed opportunity.

That idea anchors this month’s Compass.

“If you confuse, you lose.” — Donald Miller

This quote is most often applied to marketing, and for good reason.

Donald Miller reminds us that when people don’t immediately understand who you are, what problem you solve, and how you help, they disengage — not because they aren’t interested, but because the message requires too much effort to process.

In a noisy world, clarity reduces cognitive load. It removes friction. It makes it easy for people to say yes.

The most effective organizations don’t try to say everything — they work relentlessly to say the right thing, simply and consistently. They understand that clarity isn’t about dumbing things down; it’s about honoring the audience’s limited attention.

If your marketing isn’t working, the question often isn’t Is this good?
It’s Is this clear?
